WHAT IS SILVERLIGHT
For years, web page animation has been restricted to animated gifs or the admittedly excellent vector graphic Flash. Now Microsoft is going to take Flash on with their Silverlight product, which provides graphical and animation display, with multimedia and interactivity built in. Version 1.1 which will be released in a few months will include a version of the .NET Framework so it can execute C# code. Like Java, Silverlight code runs in a sandbox without direct access to platform APIs for security. Silverlight uses managed wrappers and should eventually be able to call JavaScript code directly.

We have started developing this module, looking to take advantage to the latest technologies available through Silverlight. This module is beginning to tap into the strength that Silverlight delivers.
We have found this development process most interesting and inspiring. The new features offered in the Silverlight language have given us many ideas on where we can take development of the product within the DNN framework.

The Highlights

Simple to Install  As with all the modules we produce, this module will in install in all the listed versions (see below) of DNN with ease. A single PA install file makes the install and deletion process a breeze.

 

Small and Fast  Even though the module is feature rich, we have worked hard to keep the ASP.NET 2 code to a minimum. This means the module will run fast on DNN.

New Menu System We have created a simple to use menu system for configuring the module. This helps to keep the module easy to user for users who are new to DNN.

 

It Works Many of us have experienced frustrations with expensive modules that don't work. The either break or don't work as advertised. Our dedication to this working module is evident in the fact that we have sold hundreds of working modules and continue to develop all of our modules as a full time effort. This is what we do!

Built In Help The module contains help icons that actually contain helpful information. Imagine that! This assists users who are not programmers and don’t want to be.

Upgrade Path As we continue development of this module, we will continue to release enhancements to users who have purchased this module in the past.

 

We are expecting some really nice tools to be released from Microsoft in the next month. These will make the system handle any video type on any recent browser. Naturally this will be included in the upgrade path.
